Mainsail Handling Systems > Ball Bearing Batten Traveler Systems

Harken Battcar traveler systems are the first choice of sailors, from cruisers to singlehand-ed around-the-world racers. These low friction assemblies support strong, lightweight batten receptacles and headboards. The receptacles pivot up/down, side-to-side, and rotate to handle pushing, pulling, and twisting loads. Recirculating ball bearing cars running in a "V" groove roll freely regardless of the batten angle.

Harken Battcars let you hoist and reef your mainsail quickly and efficiently on all points of sail. Most importantly, if you're hit by a squall (or simply tired at the end of the day) you can douse the main instantly, with a simple flick of the wrist.

1. Track and Slug Mounting System

Lightweight, high-strength tracks easily install on most masts, even with the spar up. Mounting slugs, available for flat or round mast grooves, slide into mast to securely attach track to mast—no drilling required. Because mounting slugs support track side-load, back of track is open to reduce weight. If your mast does not have internal sail track, you can attach mainsail traveler track by drilling and tapping the spar.

2. Variety of Cars

A variety of ball bearing cars is offered to accept most standard batten terminals.

3. Headboard Couplers

Headboard couplers place high leech loads on iwo cars. Using a bridge spreads the load properly. The 1807 headboard car shown can be used with no sail modifications, Special headboards are offered for new sails or larger boats.

4. Luff Cars

Ball bearing luff cars hold the sail to the mast between battens. Their short length reduces stack height.

5. Luff Sliders

Smaller boats can use the 1777 luff slider.
