During the 2000 America's Cup, the top three boats—Team New Zealand, Prada, and AmericaOnemie fully equipped with Harken deck hardware and winches. For the 2003 America's Cup, Harken will equip Team New Zealand, plus six of the challenging syndicates. With only one year of development time between Cups, Harken has been hard at work redefining winch technology.

Primary/Mainsheet Winch: 1111AC This new IACC primary winch is a refined design of the successful 1110 winch used since the 1995 America's Cup. The base and housing are machined from solid 6061 aluminum to provide the ultimate in reliability. The carbon drum is also new and manufactured with space-age prepreg lamination techniques and autoclave curing. The winch gears are titanium and 17-4PH stainless steel. The 1111 winch comes in three or four speeds with a plain top or self-tailing drums. The grinder selects the correct gear using a remote foot button. |

Runner Winches: 990.3STAC We've shaved weight and added reliability to the powerful three-speed 990 that has been so successful on the IACC and Maxi boats. The drum is cast from permanent-mold tooling, with a carbon fiber self-tailing mechanism to reduce weight. This winch has a 1:1 first gear for pedestal grinding. A 100:1 power ratio allows easy top grinding by one trimmer. Gears are coated titanium. |

Halyard Winches: 65.2STAC Race proven in the last Cup and on the new Maxi boats, this small, powerful self tailer is safe to 3000 kg (6,600 Ibs). The carbon drum and coated titanium gears save a tremendous amount of weight. |

Traveler Winch: 50.2STAC This new self-tailing winch follows the successful design of the 990, and 65 winches and features titanium and aluminum drums and titanium gears. The self-toiler is carbon. Teamed with the Harken CRX roller bearing traveler car, we have a traveler system that is quick to ease and trim under high loads. Simplicity is an understatement! |
